IDRC has supported research in Cameroon since 1973. Early support was directed to building a cadre of local researchers whose expertise in agriculture, health, and education would help meet national development priorities.
Capacity building is an important part of the Centre’s current support for Cameroon’s science and research community.
IDRC partner the École Nationale Supérieure Polytechnique for example, involves students in its research to improve people’s health through the better management of a watershed that includes the capital city of Yaoundé.
IDRC and its Southern partners have helped to develop the “ecosystem approach to human health” used in this research.
